As we age, our skin suffers substantially. Loose skin creates sagging and bags that are difficult to cover. A face lift is the only way to permanently rid yourself of these issues, but going under the knife is a daunting thought for most people. PDO provides a revolutionary type of facial rejuvenation without surgery. Commonly known as the thread face lift , it can dramatically improve your looks and reduce the signs of aging without surgery. As another anti-aging option for a tailored and customized facial rejuvenation, PDO procedures fill the gap between surgery and injectables.
PDO stands for PolyDioxanOne. It is a synthetic absorbable surgical suture composed of polydioxanone. With a decade worth of safety track record in surgery, PDO is a safe raw material that has been used for orthopedic and cardiovascular surgery for wound closure. Starting 2004, PDO’s use has evolved so that it is applied for minimally invasive procedures such as for soft tissue approximation. PDO can reposition underlying tissues and smooth and soften facial skin. Your skin fully absorbs PDO threads within 4 to 6 months ans is replaced by collagen. This treatment can be used on the face, and in various areas of the body where the main objective is creating a lift or tightening rather than restoring volume.
How does PDO procedure work?
The process of PDO thread placement entails the use of hypodermic needles, preloaded with PDO suture and mimics that of dermal facial filler injections. A topical numbing cream is first applied and the threads are then inserted just underneath the skin with a tiny needle or blunt cannula. The area requiring correction and the amount of laxity present determines the number of threads needed. The procedure is quick (30 – 40 minutes), virtually painless, and with short recovery.
There are two types of procedures with PDO Threads:
PDO Mesh, consists of creating a mesh under the skin. These sutures will serve as the foundation for our new collagen production. Results appear naturally, without any drastic change!
PDO Lift, is utilized to produce a more dramatic lift and immediate result. The PDO sutures have “barbs” which provide a grip underneath the skin. Sutures are inserted the same way, except they can be pulled, creating an instant skin repositioning.
What Benefits of PDO?
- Lifted and tightened skin
- Increased collagen production
- Improved overall appearance of skin texture, fine lines due to collagen production and neovascularizarion
- No incisions required
- Minimal downtime
Who can be a good candidate for PDO?
MINT PDO procedures are safe for adults who keep up with healthy lifestyles, have mild sagging of cheeks, jowls or neck and have good skin quality.
Are there any risks or side effects associated with MINT?
Most common side effects are localized tenderness, swelling and bruising for a few days after the procedure. As with any procedure that breaches the skin barrier, infection is possible but unlikely. Occasionally sutures may become visible or skin irregularities including puckering may occur.
How long do the results last?
Results are immediate for tissue lifting when using barbed thread, that can last upto a year. Since collagen must be induced when using smooth threads, results for wrinkle reduction or improving skin quality will require about six to twelve weeks to be fully appreciated.
